GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!!

Courtesy as defined by the dictionary is: excellence of manners or social conduct; polite behavior.

Herewith a rant:

You are walking down the street looking down at your phone, I am coming from the other direction, you do not see me, people are 4 across the sidewalk, there's lots of traffic on the street, I stop hoping you will pass around me, you run into me then look at me like it's my phone--how about you pay attention to where you are going---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I'm behind you in the line at the sandwich shop, you are staring up at the menu while talking to your friend on the phone asking them to help you decide what to get while the line behind you gets longer--how about you pick a f***ing sandwich---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I'm standing in the self-serve quick check-out lane at Safeway and you are checking out, one item at a time while talking on your phone, no wait now you are scrolling or surfing on your phone, slowly scanning one grocery item at a time on the machine, the line to check out on a Friday is huge, what are you doing--finish checking out---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I'm sitting on MUNI when you take a seat in front of me, I have my iPod/earphones in but you are talking so loud I can hear you over it about highly personal stuff that I nor the other people around you want to hear.  We are trapped in a small space that is the only transportation for many of us so you should show some common courtesy---lower your voice---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

Driving down the highway, cruising along in the fastlane nicely, I come up on you but you don't move over, you tap your brake lights, wait now your blinker is on (?) now it's off you don't seem to be getting out of the way I finally have a chance to go around you and as I pass by you are talking/texting on your phone which is against the law in California--please learn the rules of the road---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I'm checking you out at the register and tell you your total, you don't seem to hear as you continue to talk on your phone to your friend while emailing them a picture.  I tell you your total again and again while the line behind you gets longer---just hand over your frakin' credit card---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I'm standing at your table waiting to take your order, you are texting on your phone about your day, you companion is talking on their phone, the restaurant is crowded, tables are close together, other diners are waiting for my service, the table next to you is shooting daggers our way---make a decision about what you want or tell me to give you few minutes---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

I realize in this day and age that new technology is exciting and the thrill of constant contact is like a toy on Christmas Day.  But sadly it has also lead to the loss of common courtesy in everyday situations and the loss of personal social interaction as people don't know how to act if they are not typing it or posting it on their Facebook wall.  I encourage everyone out there to take a breath and realize there are people around you most everywhere you are and they want you to make a decision, pay your bill, watch where you are going, talk to them directly, respect their personal space---AND GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE!!

Thank you---rant done.
