AMY POEHLER AND WILL ARNETT ARE GETTING DIVORCED! LOVE IS DEAD AND THAT JUST SUCKS!

Okay, not love specifically but comedy love at least.  Now I have to say that this isn't totally unexpected news to me. I follow a fair number of the gossip blogs and this little nugget has been a blind item a few times on some of them. How do I know it was them if they were blind items you say? Well, if you read the comments on a lot of these blogs there seem to be a number of people are really plugged into entertainment and just seem to know. Then when more than a few people guess the same names over and over, I've found there is a little kernel of truth in there somewhere and sadly in this instance that truth has shown through. See here and here.

I'll be honest and say I'm not a big fan of Parks And Recreation, comedy of the uncomfortable is not something I find terribly funny, but I did like Poehler on Saturday Night Live and Baby Mama had it's moments. Nor can I say I'm one of those obsessive cult fans of Arnett's Arrested Development or of that sad NBC show Up All Night (Maya Rudolph deserves her own show). But as a couple they seemed cute, funny and happy together and the fact that they can't seem to make it work in Hollywood is sad. Celebrity couples regularly come and go through the Hollywood scene but every now and then one comes along that seem so perfect together that people actually pull for them to make the long haul and Poehler and Arnett were one of those kinds of couples. Outwardly nice and deserving of happy ending happiness.

The couple have not released a statement as to why the separation is occurring, just had their "reps" merely confirm that the split is indeed true. It's possible we may never know what the reasons were but then again in this day and age of instant electronic gratification they may talk about what happened once things have settled down and they have some time and distance from to sort through their feelings and come to grips with the realities of celebrity divorce. And depending on the circumstances I don't really expect this to be one of those nasty tabloid filled affairs like some others have been.

Is this just another indictment of the institution of marriage to survive, especially in Hollywood? Eh, maybe a little, but when two high powered celebrities with busy lives get together it can be difficult. Constantly working long hours filming and being away from one another can be a strain particularly when there are children involved. It's tough to juggle all the demands of popular in demand actors when you move from project to project while your career is hot you need to take as many offers of work as you can because one never knows when work can suddenly dry up and the only part you are offered is as the wacky best friend in a Lifetime TV movie, and even those can be hard to come by.

Do I really think this means love is dead? Of course not. Maybe wounded a bit, much like many of our collective psyche's were when the news broke but definitely not dead. Like many things we learn, we will be sad for awhile but then something else will come along to divert our attention and we will move on. In the meantime we can merely offer our condolences to the couple and hope it wasn't something serious (like infidelity) that broke them up but something much more benign like career demands and in that way when can still hold out some small little pie in the sky candy coated sparkly sprinkled hope that maybe in this crazy little world these two kids could possibly work things out and if they don't that they find solace in the fact that we are all pulling for them in whatever they choose to do.
